Green School

The meaning of the word Green school is environmentally friendly school. But in a broad sense, is defined as schools that have the commitment and systematically develop programs to internalize environmental values into all school activities. Therefore, the physical appearance of the school ecologically laid out so that it becomes a vehicle for learning for the entire school community to be wise and environmentally friendly behavior (Sugeng Paryadi, 2O08).

See the environmental conditions around this time, the concept of green schools is very important to be implemented more widely. Various natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and so on, mostly caused by human actions which damage the ecosystem environment. In addition to surrender to Him, of course, necessary to the realization that people more friendly to the environment.

Here, the concept of green schools in growing attitude of care for the environment through a process of learning and habituation becomes important and strategic. At school, the learning process leading to the efforts to establish the behavior of students who care about the environment through a learning model that is applicable and touches of everyday life. Meanwhile, the school environment to be used as habituation behavior of daily care for the environment. Thus, both aspects of the earlier, towards one goal, namely internalizing or habituation environmentally conscious behavior in everyday life.

Sugeng Paryadi cites the opinion, the preparation of green schools program is done holistically to link all existing programs in schools and to consider enabling and inhibiting factors.

Internal potential schools such as the availability of land, water resources, energy,
landscapes, traditions surrounding communities, and ecosystems are objects in the development of green school concept. Meanwhile, in view of the NGO Indonesian Biodiversity (Biodiversity), green schools program should develop
  1. a curriculum-based environment;
  2. community-based education;
  3. improving the quality of the school environment and its surroundings;
  4. support systems that are environmentally friendly; and
  5. environmentally sound school management.

Implementation of green schools is done in three steps: first strategic, curricular fields, the learning environment is integrated with the existing subjects. Teachers must be good at learning pack with understanding and learning experience that is applicable. Second, the extra fields that lead to the formation of students' awareness of environmental conservation through environmental education and environmental work competitions.

Thirdly, the management of the school environment, namely through
  • The utilization and management of the school grounds into natural laboratory like to gardens and medicinal plants, solicitation saving energy and water, recycling of waste through a process of reduce, reuse and recycle, and
  • Management of social environment in the form of habituation behavior of real-perila my positive in them discipline, cooperation, caring, honesty, and respect for local knowledge

The school environment is the environment of everyday life of students. If the school environment can be organized and managed properly, it will become an effective vehicle for the establishment of environmentally conscious behavior
